STEFAN SCHÖNING

After he graduated in product development at the Henry Van de Velde Institute in Antwerp, Stefan Schöning set up his multidisciplinary studio in 1994.
Folder, a chair cut and folded out of one piece, drew worldwide attention when it was brought out in 2001 and has become a classic in the meantime.
To develop his own identity, Stefan Schöning works in different sectors with a variety of products and materials. Toys, lighting, furniture, kitchenware, consumption goods, public design, all these sectors require a different approach, which allows to acquire knowledge that is exchangeable.
This approach has led to designs which exceed standard manufacturing processes. Each design could lead to the application of new technologies and materials, which emphasizes the identity of the design. Elimination is an important factor during this design process.
“When you draw a line, it must replace all other superfluous lines. It has to be that line, with all its characteristics.
